From your eye to camera or smartphone to final publication

CA Institute is proud to be partnered with one of Brno’s best photographers, Roman Klat, who runs our photography department. The full  program is composed of:

• Getting started: All the fundamentals you need to get started
• Business & Practical: How to present yourself and become successful
• Creative Thinking: designed to push your seeing from what is in front of your eyes into the world of abstractions, reflections, layers, movement, and then deeper into the realm of concepts and imagination.
• Digital Camera Basics: students will learn all the controls and functions on their digital Single Lens Reflex (SLR) or mirrorless cameras, basic camera operation (including f-stop, shutter speed and ISO), fundamental concepts of photography, and how to control the photograph’s final look.
• Figure/Nude: working with nude models on location.
• IPhones And Androids: Learn to capture compelling street imagery using iPhones and Androids.
• Lighting & Portraiture: how to effectively light portraits on location using natural and artificial light.
• Night Photography: get started exploring and photographing an extraordinary nocturnal landscape. Learn how to utilize tools and techniques such as long time exposures, balance ambient light with artificial light sources, and work with low and high ISOs and bracketing.
• Photography Fundamentals: learn all the controls and functions on their digital Single Lens Reflex (SLR) or mirrorless cameras, basic camera operation (including f-stop, shutter speed and ISO), fundamental concepts of photography, and how to control the photograph’s final look.
• Photoshop & Lightroom: focuses on the most essential workflow and developing features of the new Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom Classic CC with the needs of the photographer in mind. Students will learn how to import, sort, organize and enhance their digital images, as well as batch process groups of images, quickly and efficiently.
• Street Shooting: learn to shoot candidly on the street, not only from practical experience, but also from studying historic and contemporary street photographers.

Duration & Structure

• Duration: 2 semesters (9–10 months)
• Total study period: 36–40 weeks
• Continuous enrollment available

Study Intensity

• 20 hours per week (full-time study)
• 50-minute lessons
• 4–5 days per week
• Total workload (including self-study): 30–35 hours per week

Assessment:

The successful candidate has completed 20 coursework hours consisting of all of the assignments, quizzes, projects, tasks, and final exam/presentation at a grade of 70% or higher as well as all 10 hours of practicum in order to receive a certificate.
